A Message from the Editor: Bringing the "Voice" Back to Cameron

I believe a local paper should be exactly that: local. That is why all our contributing writers are from right here in Cameron and Milam County. Even our printing will stay home, as we’ve partnered with Main Printing for our upcoming physical editions.

A Message from the Editor: Bringing the "Voice" Back to Cameron

To my fellow neighbors and friends in Cameron,

It is with immense pride and a heart full of excitement that I introduce you to The Cameron Community Voice.

Many of you likely know me from my time as General Manager of the Cameron Herald, or perhaps we’ve crossed paths through the Milam Art Society or the Milam County Mission. My roots here run deep, and my commitment to this community is what drove me to launch Jillybean Publishing and this new publication. This isn't just another news outlet; it is a passion project dedicated to preserving the stories, the people, and the spirit of the town we call home.

Bridging Tradition with Tomorrow

We are beginning our journey as a digital-first platform, but our vision is expansive. My goal is to integrate modern technology into the classic, essential art of the newspaper. Even as we transition to full print by this fall, we are bringing the "new age" to our pages.

When you pick up a physical copy at local businesses later this year, you will notice QR codes throughout the articles. These aren't just links—they are gateways to video highlights from Friday night games, deep-dive interviews on our new YouTube channel, and interactive content that brings our reporting to life.

Locally Grown, Locally Produced

I believe a local paper should be exactly that: local. That is why all our contributing writers are from right here in Cameron and Milam County. Even our printing will stay home, as we’ve partnered with Main Printing for our upcoming physical editions.

Starting every Thursday, you can visit our website to find fresh stories and our dedicated community sections, including:

  • The Community Kitchen: A space for your favorite family recipes.
  • The Yo-Voice: A special section written entirely by Cameron ISD students, from elementary through high school.
  • Real Estate & Local Business: Weekly reports from Ashley Bates and featured "Business Spotlights."
  • Community Life: Pet of the Week from the shelter, church directories, weddings, anniversaries, and a full community calendar.

Keeping Our History and Heritage Free

One of my primary goals is to keep obituaries free of charge. To do this—and to keep our local coverage thriving—we are looking for community partners. Whether you are interested in sponsoring the obituary page, the "Yoe Voice" section, or the church directory, your support ensures these stories remain accessible to everyone.

For those who want to be the bedrock of this publication, we are currently seeking Founding Sponsors. This yearly commitment provides you with a permanent spot on our Founders page and consistent social media boosts, marking your business as the true heartbeat behind this paper.

Get Involved

This paper is for you, and it belongs to you. We want your news, your recipes, your events, and your milestones.
