A Touch of Theatrical Magic: The Fantasticks Comes to Milam Community Theater

Cameron, TX - There is a suspicious wall appearing in town, the moon seems to have accepted a permanent starring role overhead, and locals swear they can hear a familiar melody drifting through the air, humming about trying to remember a time in September...

If you think it's mere coincidence, think again! The theatrical magic is officially arriving in Cameron as Milam Community Theater (MCT) prepares to bring the world’s longest-running musical, The Fantasticks, to life live on stage.

Written by the legendary duo Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, this beloved production will run as MCT's highly anticipated summer show from July 25 through August 2.

A Timeless Tale of Love, Moonlight, and Magic

At its heart, The Fantasticks is a whimsical, poignant, and beautifully romantic allegorical fable. The story revolves around a classic premise: a boy, a girl, and their well-meaning but fiercely meddling parents who devise a clever reverse-psychology scheme to keep them apart so they will fall in love.

Guided by the charismatic narrator, El Gallo, the audience is invited to step outside the real world and rely on pure imagination. What follows is a moving journey through adolescent thrills, the growing pains of disillusionment, and the ultimate discovery of a mature, meaningful love—reminding us all of El Gallo’s timeless truth: “without a hurt, the heart is hollow.”
