Authorities Investigating Drowning Incident Near Rockdale Involving Horseback Rider
An investigation is underway in Milam County following a fatal drowning incident over the weekend involving a man attempting to cross a pond on horseback.
ROCKDALE, Texas — An investigation is underway in Milam County following a fatal drowning incident over the weekend involving a man attempting to cross a pond on horseback.
According to a press release issued by Milam County Sheriff Mike Clore, emergency responders were dispatched at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Saturday to the 600 block of County Road 303 outside of Rockdale.
First responders arrived at a private property pond where a 31-year-old male, later identified as Andrew Jenkins, had gone underwater and failed to resurface.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Jenkins was attempting to ride a horse across the pond when the pair became separated in the water, causing Jenkins to go under.
A multi-agency search effort was immediately launched, involving:
- The Milam County Sheriff’s Office
- Texas Parks & Wildlife Game Wardens
- Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department
- Milam County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team
- Williamson County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team
Divers successfully located and recovered Jenkins' body at approximately 8:00 p.m. that evening.
Authorities stated that based on current information, foul play is not suspected in the incident. An autopsy has been ordered to confirm the official cause of death.
