Empowering the Community: O.J. Thomas Alumni Community Resource Center Launches Summer Lineup
The O.J. Thomas Alumni Community Resource Center, located at 1400 West 6th Street in Cameron, Texas, has officially unveiled a vibrant schedule of community events and programs as part of its ongoing "Restore the Legacy Campaign."

Thomas Alumni Community Resource Center, located at 1400 West 6th Street in Cameron, Texas, has officially unveiled a vibrant schedule of community events and programs as part of its ongoing "Restore the Legacy Campaign." As detailed in the center's second edition newsletter the organization is moving forward with its core mission: "Together, we build. We serve. We empower."
For local youth, the center is offering "Cooking with Kids and Shorty," featuring Mr. Williams and Phine, every Thursday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Additionally, the Central Texas Food Bank will be hosting a distribution of food boxes for children aged 1 to 18 at O J Thomas Field. This distribution takes place from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on specific dates, including June 26, July 10, July 24, and August 7. Teens can also look forward to "Teen Night" with Mrs. Regina and DJ Coach Wells, which runs from 8:00 PM to 12:00 AM.
Staying active and connected is a primary focus this season. The center hosts an Open Gym every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday that is open to all community members. For those looking to learn more about the facility, a guided tour is available every Monday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Furthermore, community members can enjoy delicious plates and great fellowship during the Fundraiser Plate Sales held on the second and fourth Sunday of the month; interested parties can contact Shonda at 254-760-3912.
A diverse list of upcoming specialized events is also on the horizon. These activities include "Build a Bike with a Cop," "Needle Crafting with Diane Pair," "Painting with a Twist with BVCASA," "Math & Science with Mrs. L. Scott," and "Crafting with Shonda and Vee."
The resource center is currently seeking volunteers who want to share their time and make a meaningful difference. Meanwhile, preparations have officially begun for the 61st O J Thomas Alumni Homecoming 2026.
