CAMERON, Texas — A new community initiative is taking aim at summertime hunger for local youth. As revealed in community promotional updates on social media, the OJ Thomas Alumni Community Resource Center is launching a free bi-weekly food distribution program in partnership with the Central Texas Food Bank.
The program is designed to bridge the nutritional gap for families during the summer months when school meals are unavailable.
Distribution Schedule and Location
The drive officially begins on Friday, June 26, 2026, and will operate on a bi-weekly basis throughout the early deployment of the summer season. Specific distribution dates have been locked in as follows:
- June 26
- July 10
- July 24
- August 7
Families can pick up the food boxes between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM on these dates. The distribution site will be held outdoors in the field at OJ Thomas, located at 1400 West 6th Street, Cameron, Texas.
Program Details and Eligibility
The initiative provides free 2-week food distribution boxes tailored specifically for children and teenagers between the ages of 1 and 18. Organizers emphasize that the program is highly accessible, meaning no prior registration or proof of income is required to participate.
Each distributed box contains 10 nutritious, ready-to-eat meals intended to help keep local children well-fed and healthy.
Important Pickup Requirements
To ensure proper compliance and allocation, certain guidelines must be followed during pickup. As a general rule, each child must be present at the site to receive their respective food box.
However, if a child cannot be physically present at the pickup location parents or guardians may still obtain a box by presenting one of the following verification documents:
* An official letter or email from a school listing the enrolled children
* Student report cards
* An attendance record sourced from the parent portal of a school website
* A valid student ID card
* A birth certificate (applicable for children who are not yet old enough to be enrolled in school)
