ROCKDALE, TX — The George Hill Patterson Community Center was packed Saturday evening as community members gathered for a charity dinner benefiting Rockdale VFW Post 6525 and the veterans and families it serves.

Hosted by General Quarters Weaponry and the Rockdale VFW, the evening brought together an estimated 250-plus guests for dinner, live music, raffles, silent and live auctions, and an impressive collection of items donated by area individuals and businesses.

General Quarters Weaponry owner and operator Tony Trevino and his wife, Rebecka Trevino, were among those behind the evening's efforts. Tony emphasized during the event that funds raised would go toward assisting the Rockdale VFW and continuing its support of local veterans and their families.

The evening opened with a presentation of the colors, followed by recognition of veterans in attendance. Guests were treated to a catered meal provided by Frank Felton BBQ/Catering by Mopsie also known as Thorndale Meat Market, live music by Michael Alexandersson (from NBC's The Voice) and the Eye Owe You band, raffles, and tables filled with donated silent-auction items. General Quarters Weaponry also donated several major prizes, including a fully custom engraved Springfield 1911 and a custom wooden box set of three presidential Bond Arms derringers, which generated plenty of excitement throughout the evening.

From the moment guests entered, the atmosphere was welcoming, the room was full and it was obvious how much effort had gone into creating the evening. More importantly, the purpose never got lost among the food, music and auctions: the community had gathered to support the men and women who served our country and the local VFW that continues to serve them.

A special thank-you is due to every business owner, individual, volunteer and donor who contributed an auction item, prize, service, time or financial support. An event of this size does not happen without a tremendous amount of work behind the scenes.

It was an impressive night of community support, and hopefully one that will return next year even bigger.
