CAMERON, TX — Local residents checking their refrigerators after this week’s grocery run at Brookshire Brothers or nearby regional markets are being urged to double-check their egg cartons.
Texas-based producer Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. has initiated a voluntary recall of nearly 1.6 million dozen shell eggs (approx. 15.8 million individual eggs) produced at two of its Texas facilities due to potential contamination with Salmonella Enteritidis.
While no illnesses have been reported to date, the FDA confirmed that affected products were shipped to grocery retailers and food service operators across Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Mississippi.
Among the primary retailers impacted are Brookshire Grocery Co. stores (including Brookshire’s, Country Morning, and Sunups labels) and Kroger locations.

Local shoppers who recently purchased eggs should inspect the side of their cartons for specific plant codes, Julian dates, and sell-by dates printed in black date-coding ink.
