Obituaries Are Always Free in the Cameron Community Voice

When a Milam County family loses someone they love, the last thing they should have to worry about is paying to tell the community.

That's why obituaries in the Cameron Community Voice are free — and they always will be.

Two places to find them

The Voice keeps a running obituary listing for Milam County on cameron-community-voice.com, updated as new notices come in, so you can find it there at all times. Every listing includes the person's name and age, when they passed, and their service information, so friends, neighbors, classmates, and coworkers can pay their respects and show up for the family.

And beginning this week, the listings will also appear in print. Every Sunday edition of the Cameron Community Voice will carry that week's obituaries — Sunday through Saturday — so families who prefer the paper in their hands, or who don't spend much time online, won't miss a single one. If someone you love is listed on the website during the week, their name will be in the Sunday paper too.

Who can be listed

Anyone from Milam County — Cameron, Rockdale, Thorndale, Milano, Buckholts, Gause, and every community in between. If your loved one was from here but passed away somewhere else, they belong on the list too. This is their hometown paper, and their neighbors here will want to know.

How to send an obituary

Families and funeral homes can send a listing at no charge:

- Email: cameroncommunityvoice@gmail.com

- Phone: (803) 280-5288

Send the person's full name, their age, the date they passed, and the service information — visitation, funeral or memorial service, and burial — and we will add them to the listing. You are welcome to include a photograph, and we will run it with the listing at no charge.

Funeral homes serving Milam County families are invited to send their notices directly, the same way they send them anywhere else. There is no fee, no account to open, and nothing to sign.

Why we do it this way

In a small county, an obituary is not an advertisement. It is how a community learns that it has lost one of its own. The Cameron Community Voice was founded on the belief that local news should serve local people — and some parts of a hometown paper should simply be a service to neighbors.

If your family is making arrangements now, we are sorry for your loss. Send us the information whenever you are ready, and we will take care of the rest.

Obituaries stay free for Milam County families because local businesses help underwrite the page. If your business would like to sponsor the obituary listings — on the website and in the Sunday edition — and help keep them free for everybody, please contact the Cameron Community Voice at cameroncommunityvoice@gmail.com or (803) 280-5288, or through cameron-community-voice.com.

The Cameron Community Voice obituary listing is free to every Milam County family. New obituaries are added to cameron-community-voice.com as they are received, with the most recent at the top of the page, and each week's listings also appear in the Sunday edition.
