Rockdale Earth Day Announces 4th Annual International Day of Peace Weekend Celebration

ROCKDALE, TX —Rockdale Earth Day is proud to announce its plans to join global celebrations for the 44th International Day of Peace this September. Established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly, the International Day of Peace is a dedicated time for commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.

This year marks the fourth consecutive year that Rockdale Earth Day has partnered with these poignant worldwide events, offering a packed weekend of community-building activities, art, film, and reflection.

The community is invited to take part in the following scheduled events:

Saturday, September 19: Sidewalk Chalk Art Project

• Time: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
• Location: Downtown Rockdale
• Details: Kicking off the weekend, friends and neighbors are invited to join together to create beauty, color, and positive messages along the sidewalks of downtown Rockdale. Free sign-up is available, and chalk is provided. All are welcome to participate.

Sunday, September 20: Film Screening & Community Discussion

• Time: 3:00 PM
• Location: The Kay Theater
• Details: Rockdale Earth Day is partnering with the Kay Theater Foundation for a special screening of Remember The Titans. Admission is $5, and a $5 concessions snack pack is available, or attendees can bring their own to-go meal. Tickets and info can be found at www.kaytheater.org or by following @kaytheater.
• Following the movie, Rockdale Earth Day invites members of the community to participate in a moderated time of discussion about lessons learned, and the challenges and opportunities which lie ahead to build a better community, and thus a better world.

Sunday Evening, September 20: Night of Peace Service

• Time: 7:00 PM
• Location: The Kay Theater
• Details: The weekend concludes with a special Night of Peace Service. This uplifting evening will feature a wonderful evening of music, peace prayers, and readings. The peace homily for this year will be delivered by local minister Pastor Herbert Jones.
