Tiny Athletes, Big Fun: Cameron Gears Up for the 4th of July Baby Crawl and Toddler Trot

CAMERON — Get those training schedules ready, parents! This Independence Day, downtown Cameron is hosting one of the most hilarious and adorable traditions of the summer. Held in conjunction with Cameron's 4th of July and America 250! Celebration, the community is invited to witness the high-stakes, low-speed excitement of the "Baby Crawl and Toddler Trot" Contests.

Sponsored by local State Farm Agent Julie Sulak, this family-fun event promises to bring plenty of laughs and patriotic cheer to the heart of Milam County. Adding to the evening's prestige, Milam County Judge Bill Whitmire will be lending his voice to the festivities as the official Master of Ceremonies.

Event Logistics: When and Where

The action will take place right on the historic square:

  • Date: July 4th.
  • Location: The South Side Lawn of the Milam County Courthouse, located at 102 S. Fannin in downtown Cameron.
  • Registration: Begins promptly at 6:00 PM and will be handled onsite directly at the race location.
  • Attire: Festive 4th of July outfits are highly encouraged for the little competitors, though they are not required to participate.

Race Guidelines & Schedule

Organizers have established explicit rules to keep the matches fair and entertaining. Both brackets will feature heat races restricted to 5 entries per heat. The winners of each individual heat will advance to the finals to compete head-to-head for a Grand Prize Gift Certificate.

The Baby Crawl (7:00 PM)

Age Range: Open to infants aged 6 to 12 months.

  • The Rules: Babies must crawl the entire track from one end to the other. If a crawler stands up and walks, they will be disqualified from the crawl and moved up to the Toddler Trot division.
  • Finals: The final race to determine the ultimate champion will take place at 7:30 PM.

The Toddler Trot (8:00 PM)

Age Range: Open to toddlers aged 2 and under.

  • The Rules: Trotters are required to walk, trot, or run across the finish line—absolutely no crawling is permitted. If a toddler falls during the race, they are permitted to get back up and continue running or walking.
  • Finals: The final dash for the crown will hit the track at 8:30 PM.
