CAMERON — The Sheriff’s Office marked a significant milestone this week as Sheriff Mike Clore officially swore in three seasoned officers from the Rockdale Police Department to serve as new reserve deputies.

Officers Jerry Meadors, Stephen Goodrich, and Michael Hubnik stood before Sheriff Clore to take their oaths, officially joining the county’s reserve ranks in a move aimed at strengthening law enforcement collaboration across the region.

The Power of Dual Commissions

The transition is made possible by Texas state law, which uniquely permits peace officers to hold dual commissions. This means all three officers will maintain their primary, full-time duties with the Rockdale Police Department while simultaneously holding their new roles with the Sheriff’s Office.

"By joining our office as reserve deputies, they will be able to assist county operations in combatting crime and expand their own role in better serving and protecting our communities." — Sheriff’s Office Statement

Boosting County-Wide Security

This partnership offers several distinct advantages for local residents:

  • Seamless Collaboration: Bridges the gap between city police and county resources, making it easier to share information and coordinate on larger cases.
  • Expanded Patrol Capabilities: Provides the Sheriff’s Office with experienced personnel to assist during high-priority operations, community events, or emergencies.
  • Resource Efficiency: Maximizes the impact of local law enforcement without adding significant tax burdens to county residents.

By breaking down the traditional boundaries between city and county agencies, this initiative promises to create a more unified front against crime, ultimately making both Cameron and the greater Milam County area safer places to live.
