Whether you are a local gearing up for the new school year or looking for a vibrant weekend trip that is well worth the drive, Cameron and the surrounding area have an unforgettable lineup waiting for you.

Friday, August 7th: Kick Off the Weekend Right!

Classic Bank Community Appreciation (2:00 PM – 4:00 PM)

  • Start your Friday afternoon on a sweet note! Head over to the Classic Bank Motor Bank (311 N Houston) for their Community Appreciation event featuring free root beer floats. It is the perfect refreshing treat to kick off your weekend stroll!

 Yoe High School Chromebook & Schedule Pickup

  • Seniors: Thursday, August 6th (8:00 AM – 11:30 AM or 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM)
  • Freshmen: Thursday, August 6th (During orientation sessions)
  • Sophomores & Juniors: Friday, August 7th (8:00 AM – 11:30 AM or 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM)
  • Note: All online registration forms must be completed and submitted before receiving your Chromebook and schedule.

 12th Street Riderz 4th Annual Trailride and Campout (August 6th – 8th)

  • Location: Wilson Ledbetter Park (1007 South College Avenue, Cameron, Texas)
  • What's Happening: Running concurrently with the weekend festivities, this major campout features vendor shopping (vendor fee is $75 for the weekend, which includes 2 wristbands), food, clothing, drinks, kids' items, accessories, and apparel.  Good Old Dart Nights at the Rockdale VFW (8:00 PM)

  • Location: Rockdale VFW
  • What's Happening: Kick off your Friday night nearby with a nostalgic evening of friendly competition, cold drinks, and catching up with old friends! The entry fee is $10, with payouts for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, and the VFW is matching the pot. Come prove you've still got it!

Saturday, August 8th: The Big Day!

Saturday is packed wall-to-wall with incredible events across town, making it a true choose-your-own-adventure kind of day.

1. Cameron "Sip, Shop, Stroll, and Stay Awhile" Monthly Downtown Experience (10:00 AM – 3:00 PM)

  • Location: Historic Downtown Cameron Square
  • The Vibe: Vibrant community market, local shopping, and small-town hospitality.
  • What's Happening: Dive into this month's "Endless Summer" theme! Explore the Artisan & Maker Market, enjoy live music in the gazebo featuring performances by Joe Frausto and The Broke Musicians, sip on seasonal drinks from local sip stations, and check out family activities and downtown shopping. While you're strolling the square, make sure to discover local history at the Milam County Historical Museum, Milam County Jail Museum, and Milam County Railroad Museum!

2. Sips, Shops, and Stories (1:00 PM – 3:00 PM)

  • Location: Cameron Coffee Company
  • The Vibe: Cozy, literary, and deeply inspiring.
  • What's Happening: Presented by Jillybean Publishing and Cameron Community Voice, come meet local fantasy author Amber Gabriel! Browse her incredible titles—from A Crack in the Rook to Captain of the Sand—enjoy a delicious specialty coffee, and celebrate local independent storytelling.

3. Neon Glow Event: All Aboard! (1:00 PM – 3:00 PM)

  • Location: Milam County Railroad Museum
  • The Vibe: Bright, high-energy, and family-friendly.
  • What's Happening: Experience the museum under black lights with glowing neon trains! Glow big or go home with great music and a powerful safety message from Operation Lifesaver about staying safe around tracks.

4. Endless Summer Sign Workshop (11:00 AM)

  • Location: Shirley Mae’s Bakery (Hosted by Jordyn’s Sticky Business)
  • The Vibe: Creative and crafty.
  • What's Happening: Get hands-on and make your own 14-inch round wooden sign! Choose between a cheerful "Welcome" ice cream design or tropical "Chill Vibes" flamingos. Tickets are $35 per person. Call 979-906-5126 to reserve your spot and pair your crafting with some sweet treats!

5. Back-to-School Party & Parking Lot Garage Sale (Starting at 4:00 PM)

  • Location: Cameron Beer Market
  • The Vibe: High-energy block party meets community market.
  • What's Happening: The party continues into the evening! Enjoy free hot dogs, a kitchen serving a full menu, a full bar with drink specials, and a massive lineup of family fun including a bounce house, mechanical bull, face painting, and a cornhole tournament (starting at 5:00 PM with a $20 buy-in). Plus, hit up the Garage Sale from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM in the parking lot to find great clothes and school gear for the kids (free 10x10 spots available if you want to set up!).

  • Rockdale VFW Charity Fundraising Dinner (Saturday, August 15th at 5:00 PM)
  • Location: Rockdale VFW
  • What's Happening: Show your support for local veterans and help preserve the Rockdale VFW, which is facing critical maintenance and financial challenges. Enjoy a fantastic evening featuring a delicious dinner, live music, a silent auction, raffles, fun activities, and an exclusive gun raffle! Volunteers and donors are heavily needed—whether you can help set up, serve food, donate auction items, or secure sponsorships, reach out to Becka Trevino at 850-590-0300 to lend a hand and keep this vital community pillar strong.
