Conroe Man Jailed on Manslaughter Charge in Deadly January Crash on FM 485
Months after a devastating two-vehicle collision claimed the life of a Cameron resident, authorities have booked the suspected driver into the Milam County Jail on multiple charges, including manslaughter.
CAMERON, Texas — Months after a devastating two-vehicle collision claimed the life of a Cameron resident, authorities have booked the suspected driver into the Milam County Jail on multiple charges, including manslaughter.
Jeremiah Morataya, 20, of Conroe, was formally booked into the Milam County Jail on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 (Booking #3988). The charges were filed by Texas Highway Patrol – Region 6, District A (Waco).
According to Milam County Jail records, Morataya faces three separate charges:
- Manslaughter
- Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon
- Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 3 (< 28 grams)
Bond has not been set, and records list Morataya's bond amount at $0.00 as he remains in custody.
The Fatal January Collision
The charges stem from a head-on collision that occurred on the afternoon of Sunday, January 4, 2026, along Farm to Market Road 485, just east of Yarrelton.
According to preliminary reports from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Morataya was traveling eastbound in a 2018 Ford F-250 pickup when he allegedly disregarded a clearly marked no-passing zone and pulled into the westbound lane to overtake other traffic.
During the maneuver, the Ford collided head-on with a westbound 2022 Toyota Tacoma driven by 43-year-old Cody Blaine Wall of Cameron.
Wall suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Greg Hoelscher. Morataya was transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple with serious injuries following the impact.
Local Impact and Traffic Crackdowns
The loss of Wall—a Cameron native, husband, father, and longtime local resident—deeply impacted the Milam County community.
In the weeks following the crash, the Milam County Sheriff’s Office launched targeted traffic safety measures along FM 485, dubbed the Blaine Wall Initiative, instituting stepped-up patrols and zero-tolerance enforcement for speeding, illegal passing, and aggressive driving on the heavily traveled rural corridor.
Morataya remains in custody at the Milam County Jail pending judicial proceedings.
