Historic Debut: Cameron Yoe’s Kourtlyn Townsend Named Built Ford Tough Player of the Week
Townsend has officially been named the Built Ford Tough Class 3A Texas High School Football Player of the Week.
CAMERON, TX — It didn’t take long for sophomore quarterback Kourtlyn Townsend to etch his name into Texas high school football lore. In his very first career varsity start, Townsend orchestrated an unforgettable 22-point fourth-quarter comeback to knock off top-10 ranked Whitney, 62–61.
For his efforts, Townsend has officially been named the Built Ford Tough Class 3A Texas High School Football Player of the Week.
Facing a 55–33 deficit with 11 minutes remaining in the final quarter, Townsend showed the poise of a veteran. The sophomore finished the shootout completing 24 of 32 passes for a school-record 664 yards and seven touchdowns, accounting for a staggering 93% of the Yoemen’s total offense. His yardage output stands among the top ten single-game passing marks in state history.
"He has tremendous instincts for such a young quarterback," Cameron Yoe head coach Aaron Babino said. "He can read defensive coverages very well and get the ball out quickly. His teammates love him, they gravitate to him, he is only a sophomore but with the poise of a senior."
Distributing the ball all over the field to targets like Javarius Johnson, Jacobe Scott, and Dallen Wilcox, Townsend stayed calm under pressure to cap off a 29-point fourth-quarter explosion.
"It just felt surreal to even be starting. It was finally my time," Townsend said following the win. "I can be a leader when times get hard. I can still step up and do it, and let my team count on me."
With the win vaulting the Yoemen up the state rankings and restoring Cameron Yoe’s high-octane offensive swagger, the future under center in Cameron looks brighter than ever.
