Milam County ESD No. 1 Breaks Ground on New Cameron EMS Station

CAMERON, TX — Milam County Emergency Services District No. 1 officially commenced construction on a new, modern Cameron EMS station on August 24, marking the first purpose-built emergency medical services facility constructed in the county since the 1970s Rockdale Volunteer EMS station.
Spanning approximately 10,000 square feet, the new facility is designed to serve as both an active operations base and a central administrative and training hub for the county’s emergency services network.
Facility Highlights & Operational Upgrades
- Modern Ambulance Bays: Sized specifically to fit larger Type I ambulances, which feature expanded patient compartments for critical care but are unable to fit inside existing stations in Cameron or Rockdale without structural alterations.
- Crew Accommodations: Designed to house two active ambulances and the four personnel required to staff them during shifts.
- Workforce & Clinical Training: Dedicated sleeping, rest, and workspaces will accommodate EMT students and field riders alongside active duty crews, supporting recruitment and hands-on training for rural emergency medicine.
- District Headquarters: Serves as a permanent base for the ESD No. 1 Board of Commissioners, administrative staff, district records, continuing education programs, and regular system operations meetings.
Looking Ahead
In an open address to county residents, ESD No. 1 Board President Kain Dodd noted that the facility represents years of planning aimed at matching local population growth and modern healthcare demands.

Construction is slated for completion in April 2027, with details regarding a public grand-opening ceremony to be released closer to the station's debut.
