CAMERON, TX — In 1926, the Cameron community gathered to celebrate its very first Fiestas Patrias. Exactly one century later, that vibrant tradition remains alive, thriving, and deeply woven into the fabric of Milam County.

Fiestas Patrias is far more than a single weekend festival. It is a heartfelt tribute to Mexican independence, a dynamic celebration of cultural heritage, and a tribute to the generations who laid the groundwork for our community. For 100 continuous years, Cameron has fostered its own distinct way of carrying the celebration forward—uniting families, neighbors, and visitors year after year.

While attendees naturally look forward to the lively music, authentic food, bustling vendors, and family activities, the heartbeat behind every Fiesta has always been the dedication of local volunteers.

Organized through generations by the Mexican Patriotic Committee (Comité Patriótico Mexicano) alongside countless community supporters, the celebration is driven by people balancing jobs, families, and everyday responsibilities. They invest their personal time and energy simply out of love for Cameron and a shared conviction that this 100-year legacy must endure.

Every shared post, local sponsor, volunteer hour, donation, and attendee makes the annual gathering possible. As Cameron prepares to mark this milestone centennial year (1926–2026), the focus remains not only on today's festivities, but on the past committee members, workers, and families whose names may not all be recorded, but whose dedication ensured the tradition never faded.

The mission today remains the same as it was in 1926: to honor the past, celebrate the present, and preserve a rich cultural foundation for the next generation to inherit.
